The stand is situated on the edge of an 80m cliff overlooking the mouth of the Knysna estuary, the western head and a 180 degree view over the ocean. A very long relationship with the client ensured immediate clarity regarding design preferences. A small concept drawing served as basis for the entire project. This design had to invite the sea and exquisite views of the western head into every possible interior without being too blase. The result is free flowing shapes simulating movement through a seashell.
The clients had specific set preferences regarding the design features. Mono pitched roofs protruding the envelope was important. As a holiday home, the design had to be lay back and relaxed with earthy finishes on both walls and floors. Views of the amazing indigenous bush to the north are visually invited into every living space. All the high level windows ensure a well-lit and warm atmosphere.
The client needed a secure four-bedroom holiday home for his children and friends. To fit this accommodation onto this small sized stand with such limited available building area was quite a challenge. A large open plan living area with views of the water channels links with a covered patio and braai area. A gazebo is positioned next to the jetty.
